St. Xavier’s Senior Secondary School

In May 2013 Gefion Gymnasium and St. Xavier’s Senior Secondary School in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India signed a Memorandum of Understanding.  With this signature we have established a cooperative relationship between the two schools.

St. Xavier’s is located in the heart of the city of Jaipur with four buildings, two auditoriums and an impressive sports complex: three basketball courts, two tennis courts, two swimming pools, two football fields, two badminton courts, two squash courts and two cricket fields. The school also have indoor facilities including a gym.

History
St. Xavier’s Sr. Sec. School is a Christian minority school under the management of the Jesuits, an international Christian Religious Order, known as the Society of Jesus.

Established in 1941
The school was one among the pioneers of education in India and was established in 1941 under the name “St. Mary’s Boys’ School” at Ghatgate by Rev. Fr. Ignatius, O.F.M. Cap. In July 1943, its management was entrusted to the Jesuit Fathers renowned for their educational work and the school was transferred to the present site and christened as “St. Xavier’s School” in January 1945, and later as “St. Xavier’s Sr. Sec. School.”

Gefion and St. Xavier’s
Gefion has visited St. Xavier’s several times. 29 students from 2l and three teachers visited Jaipur and St. Xavier’s in October 2014 with the purpose of exchanging educational views and enhancing our knowledge of each other. During the visit, the students had the privilege of being privately accommodated with St. Xavier’s students, and they were all treated like royals. The varied program setup consisted of visiting classes at the school, experiencing the Diwali festival first hand, as well as sightseeing in  Jaipur.

Here, we saw the beautiful City Palace, the magnificent Amber Fort accessed on the back of an elephant and Jantar Mantar, one of the largest observatories ever built. However, what will remain as the most memorable experience will definitely be the peek into Indian daily life. The hospitality of the host families, the way they opened their hearts and homes to us, and the way 2l were treated as part of the family will be a lifelong memory for the students.
